2017 University of Michigan Physics Summer REU Application

Applications are now open for the 2017 summer program. For full consideration all materials are due on Friday, February 10, 2017. Applications will be reviewed as they are completed, and offers to outstanding applicants may be made in advance of the deadline. Mailed Materials should be sent no later than February 8th, 2017.

To be eligible for this REU program students:
  1. must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  2. must be enrolled in a degree program leading to a bachelor's degree. High school graduates who have not yet enrolled and students who have received their bachelor's degrees and are no longer enrolled as undergraduates generally are not eligible.
  3. must be enrolled in a program outside the University of Michigan.
Most students admitted to the program are between their third and fourth year of undergraduate education. Occasionally, students who are between their second and third year are admitted.

  5. Names of 2 faculty references who will be submitting letters of recommendation. Please direct them to this site to submit their letters of recommendation. They will receive an email confirmation after they have submitted the letter.
  6. Your top 3 research area preferences (from list provided)
  7. A paragraph of 500 words or less explaining why you would like to participate in research at UM this summer
  8. A personal statement about a page or two in length providing information about your background and experience
  9. Unofficial transcript
The Physics REU sites directors will utilize a common deadline of March 3, 2017, for students to accept or decline first round offers at domestic (non-international) sites. Sites may send offers to students at any time before this date, and students may accept or decline offers at any time after receipt, but students will not be required to decide before March 3. Because of necessary organizational lead time, international REU sites may require earlier acceptance dates.
